Jimmy Fursman |

Jimmy has been performing, teaching, designing and judging for marching bands, color guards and drum corps for over 16 years. He has participated with numerous groups including the Madison Scouts, Seattle Cascades, Every-Body Winterguard and Innovation Performance Ensemble of Fukuoka Japan. After years of designing and teaching at schools throughout the Pacific Northwest he is focusing on working as an adjudicator and the continued development Rhapsody Winterguard. Currently Jimmy is the proud Director of Rhapsody, based in his hometown of Seattle. |

Melody Fisher |

Melody Fisher served as a Drum Major for A.C. Davis High School for three years. She also attended the nationally recognized Smith-Walbridge Drum Major clinic in Illinois where she earned her First Class in the Corps style. Additionally she was principal clarinet or principal bassoon in the Yakima Youth Symphony Orchestra for four years, participated in All-State and WIBC Honor Bands and State Solo Contest. She is currently an Bassoon Performance and Instrumental Music Education major at Whitworth University. |

Jeff Ray |

Jeff Ray is in his 21st year of public education, and is currently the director of the 350 member Olympic View Middle School Band from Mukilteo, WA. This group was won events all over the Pacific Northwest and California. They were also the first middle school in the United States to perform at a division one NCAA Bowl game, performing with Destiny's Child. Prior to entering education Mr. Ray spent 25 years in drum and bugle corps as a member, instructor, and as a director. Groups Mr. Ray has been affiliated with include the Percussionaut Patriots, Renaissance, Freelancers, Imperials, Marauders, Argonauts, Spartans, and Cascades Corps. Mr. Ray also keeps a very busy performance schedule as a lead trumpet player. He has backed artists from the Brecker Brothers to George Burns, played for cruise lines, and currently plays for various Latin and Rock groups in the Seattle area. |

James Waterkotte |

James Waterkotte was born and raised in Arizona, a memebr of the Arizona All-State Band and also countless other performing musical groups. He marched with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and Arizona Sun Drum and Bugle Corps, the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, and Corona Del Sol H.S. Marching Band. His education includes a degree in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Oklahoma. He has been teaching High School and Junior High School Bands for the last 7 years in Washington and Oklahoma and currently teaches at Woodward Middle School on Bainbridge Island.

Dr. David Turnbull is an Associate Professor of Music in the School of Music and Theatre Arts at Washington State University. He is the Principal Trumpet of the Washington Idaho Symphony and plays trumpet with the WSU Faculty Brass Quintet, Cameradschaft, En Chamade and Jazz Northwest. He is currently writing an interdisciplinary textbook and an integrated method book for studio trumpet. He has composed and arranged dozens of works for trumpet ensemble and is active as an adjudicator and clinician. |

Nathan Novak |

Nathan has been active in the world of percussion for over 20 years playing in many genres including jazz, major symphonic works, rock and worship covers, and marching percussion. Nathan appears on a number of CDs and has accompanied jazz greats like Bob Mintzer, Benny Green, Nicholas Peyton and Carroll Dashiell. In high school Nathan was the Principal Percussionist for the Charlotte Youth Symphony and winner of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. As a member of the East Carolina University Marching Pirates Drumline Nathan performed for tens-of-thousands of fans weekly, plus numerous appearances for Sunday and Monday night NFL halftimes. Nathan has instructed high school marching bands in North Carolina and Washington State within the percussion and marching captions. A highlight was guiding East Lincoln High School (NC) to the 2000 Fiesta Bowl National Marching Band Championships. The band placed 4th overall out of 32 bands and earned the Audience Choice Award, while being the smallest ensemble in competition. A native of the East Coast, Nathan currently resides in Snoqualmie, WA with his wife Alicea and 3 year old daughter Kaitlyn. When not reading bedtime stories or fixing computer networks, you can find Nathan playing drums for the modern worship band at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue.

Kenneth Sakoda has been a marching adjudicator since 1983. He has experience in many types of events, from marching band and drum and bugle corps, to drill teams and color guard. As a program designer and instructor, Mr. Sakoda has numerous titles to he credit. Among these are first place rankings in the Washington State High School Marching Band contest and the Northwest Pageantry Association Grand Championships. His own experience as a performer on the field began in 1960 and continued for ten years. |

Eric Smedsrud |

Eric Smedsrud is in his ninth year teaching high school band, fourth year of instruction at Mountain View High School. The Mountain View Band program is home to 260 student musicians (15% of the student body), four concert bands, 3 jazz bands, pep band, marching band, and pit orchestra. Mountain View High School performed at the 2006 WMEA convention, and 2006 WIBC conference. Prior to his employment in the Evergreen School District, Mr. Smedsrud taught five years in the Richland School District at Hanford High School. Mr. Smedsrud received his undergraduate degree in 1998 from the University of Idaho, and Masters degree in trumpet performance from Washington State University in 2000. In addition to his work in the public schools, Mr. Smedsrud is an active musician, private instructor, and clinician. Mr. Smedsrud has performed with many ensembles including, the Spokane Symphony, Mid-Columbia Symphony, Walla-Walla Symphony, Clarion Brass Ensemble, Southwest Washington Wind Symphony, Columbia Basin Jazz Orchestra and many others. Artists include, Claudio Rodditti, Allen Vizzutti, Lou Rawls, Arturo Sandoval, Eddie Daniels and others.

Jarid Norman |

Like most music students, Jarid got started in the marching band scene in high school. From there, he extended his marching experience by participating in Drum Corps International, having marched with some of the top drum and bugle corps in the world, including the Madison Scouts from Madison, Wisconsin. After aging out of drum corps, Jarid served as interim visual caption head with the Troopers Drum and Bugle corps from Casper, Wyoming. While attending Western Washington University, Jarid was honing his teaching skills helping local high school marching bands, Kamiak High School and Newport High School, with their visual program. After receiving his degree in Music Education, Jarid taught High School Band at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, CO and 6-12 music at the American Community School of Athens, Athens Greece. In 2006, Jarid took a year hiatus to pursue a Masters in Music. Currently, Jarid teaches middle school band in the Bellingham School District and is the visual program coordinator for Bellingham High School.

The Harvest Marching Band Festival is organized primarily under the rules of the Western Band Association.
Finalist PolicyTwelve bands from Preliminary Competition will be selected to participate in Finals Competition in the following manner:-
The top two bands from each division with more than three bands will be selected. If a division has one, two or three participants then the division winner in preliminaries will perform in finals.

The remaining positions are filled by bands from any division in Preliminary Score order.
- Bands perform in Preliminary Score order
- Caption Awards (Best Marching, Auxiliary, etc.) are awarded to the highest scoring band in Preliminary Competition
